Big Spring High School
Marching/Honors Band
2006/2007
10th Grade

Band started this year with two-a-days for marching on August 1. Two-a-days lasted for two weeks and overlapped volleyball two-a-days for part of that time.

Andrea began the year in 4th chair overall and moved up to 2nd chair the week of September 4th and then moved back down to 4th after missing a sectional due to a long volleyball practice.

When the schedules first came out for marching contests and volleyball games it appeared that there would be 4 conflicts with two of them where we couldn't get her from one event to the other. With some schedule changes the only conflict that remained was on October 14 when there was a volleyball game at Frenship at 2:00 and the band marched at 5:15 at Abilene Wylie.

On September 29 the band played in the Homecoming Parade.

On November 27 Andrea placed 1st at All Region auditions, which were held in Big Spring this year, and qualified for Area competition. With Andrews dropping to 3A Big Spring aligned with San Angelo Lakeview for All Region. Instead of us going to Andrews, Lakeview came to Big Spring.

The band performed their Christmas concert on December 11. They played 6 different arrangements and then played their Marching music. After they finished the drum line kept on for a while (not long enough!).

On January 27, 2007 The AAAA All-Region Band concert was held at 5:00pm. It was originally supposed to be at 5:30 but it was bumped back so the kids could go to a band contest later (Knockout).

Andrea competed in Solo and Ensemble competition on February 10 in Monahans in a flute trio with Caitlyn Carlisle and Sloan Davis. They played Classic Fantasy by George Waln. The trio received a '1' and qualified for state competition later. We didn't go with the band because we had to pick up Andrea when they finished to go on to Cloudcroft to go inner tubing with my family.

In early March, Andrea moved up to 2nd chair. She moved back down to third chair a few days later.

On April 11 the Honors Band competed in the 2007 UIL Band Concert and Sightreading Contest. They received a 1 for concert and a 1 for sightreading. They received straight 1s from the judges. They got sweepstakes for their performance.

At noon on April 26th the honors band played at St. Mary's in their Eastertide concert series.

At 6:00pm on May 17th the 3 bands played their Spring Concert programs. The Honors band started around 8:15.

The band students who qualified for state Solo and Ensemble contest went to Austin to compete. Andrea's ensemble with Caitlin Carlisle and Sloan Davis got a 2. The next day the band went to Schlitterbahn.
