- Preheat oven to 250°F.
- Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Whip egg whites until soft peaks form.
- Slowly beat in cream of tartar.
- Slowly beat in sugar.
- Fold in nuts and chocolate chips.
- Drop by large tablespoonfuls onto prepared cookie sheets.
- Bake about 1 hour, or until the meringues are firm to the touch.
- Allow to completely cool before removing from paper.
