Kitty Litter Cake

I got the original recipe for this cake off of the Internet. I'm not sure where. I changed it up some. The original called for 12 small Tootsie Rolls. I changed it to 120 of the midget sized. This was to ensure that everyone will get some 'poop' in their serving. I also used green sugar sparkles to sprinkle on top. I took this cake to my daughter's 4th grade class for a treat and the kids there thought it was really good. They also had fun trying to gross out each other over it. My daughter said this is the cake she wants for her next birthday. As a note, I couldn't find a scoop small enough to work well for serving the cake. I used the scoop as a prop and served the cake with a large serving spoon. To add to the effect, you could put the box on newspaper while serving and scatter some of the crumbs on the newspaper.

Ingredients
1 Spice or German Chocolate Cake Mix
1 White Cake Mix
1 Package White Sandwich Cookies
1 Large Package Vanilla Instant Pudding Mix
Green Food Coloring
120 Midget Tootsie Rolls
Green Sugar Sprinkles
1 NEW Kitty Litter Box
1 NEW Kitty Litter Box Liner (optional)
1 NEW Pooper Scooper

Instructions
  • Prepare cake mixes and bake according to directions.
  • Prepare pudding mix and chill until ready to assemble.
  • Crumble white cookies in batches in plastic bag or blender.
  • Set aside 1/4 cup of cookie crumbs and add a few drops of green food coloring and mix using a fork or shake in a jar.
  • When cakes are cool, crumble them into a large bowl.
  • Toss cake crumbs and half of the white cookie crumbs with pudding until mixed. You may not need all of the pudding. Just add until it is moist, not soggy.
  • Line kitty litter box with liner.
  • Layer cake mixture in the box with all but 10 or 15 of the Tootsie Rolls.
  • Sprinkle other half of the white cookie crumbs over the top.
  • Scatter the green cookie crumbs over this and sprinkle the green sugar over that to imitate the chlorophyl in kitty litter.
  • Heat the remaining Tootsie Rolls a few at a time in the microwave and blunt the ends and bend them with your fingers to look like poop. Scrape them across the top of the cake to put a few cookie crumbs on them. Place them in strategic spots on top of the cake.
  • Serve with a pooper scooper.
